اداره امنیت ملی افغانستان از این فرمانده به عنوان "ملا عبدالسلام عابد" نام برده است.

این عملیات در ولسوالی کجکی ولایت هلمند انجام شده و مقامات می گویند، اجساد کشته شدگان، بعد از شناسایی، به سران قومی در محل تحویل داده شده است.

در یک اعلامیه امنیت ملی افغانستان آمده که فرمانده عابد که همراه با بیست و پنج نفر دیگر در این عملیات کشته شده، برادر "عبدالقیوم ذاکر"، معاون دوم ملا عمر، رهبر گروه طالبان بوده است.

گفته می شود که عبدالقیوم ذاکر همچنین رهبری یک شاخه از طالبان موسوم به "محاذ ملا دادالله" را به عهده دارد که بیشتر از تاکتیک ها و ایدئولوژی شبکه القاعده استفاده می کند.

هنوز طالبان در مورد این خبر واکنشی نشان نداده اند.

مقامات می گویند، در جریان عملیات نظامی در ولسوالی کجکی، مخفیگاه های مربوط به عبدالسلام عابد نیز بازرسی شده و در نتیجه، جلیقه های انتحاری و مقدار زیادی سلاح و مواد انفجاری از آن بدست آمده است.

ولایت هلمند که در سالهای گذشته از نا امن ترین مناطق در جنوب افغانستان محسوب می شد، در دو سال اخیر نسبتا آرام بوده است.

از این ولایت به عنوان یکی از مهم ترین مراکز فعالیت گروه طالبان و همچنین عمده ترین محل کشت و تولید مواد مخدر یاد می شود.

اخیرا مسئولیت امنیتی شهر لشکرگاه، مرکز ولایت هلمند و برخی دیگر از ولسوالی های این ولایت از ناتو به نیروهای امنیتی افغانستان واگذار شد.
